Food & Meals

Nutrition is fundamental for mental and physical wellbeing, and at Shenehom Housing Association, we ensure all residents have access to nourishing, varied meals that support recovery and independence. Our approach to food and meals includes:

  • All food provided: Residents never have to worry about sourcing their own groceries.
  • Breakfast: Self-catered, allowing for independent morning routines and choice.
  • Lunch: Some are self-catered during the working week, helping build independent living skills.
  • Communal Cooking: Most lunches and every dinner are prepared collaboratively by residents and staff, encouraging supportive relationships and independent skills.

  • Menu Planning: Weekly menus are created by residents, supported by staff. This empowers choice and ensures the meals reflect residents' preferences, dietary requirements, and cultural or religious needs.
  • Healthy, Balanced Diet: We encourage diverse, nutritious options, supporting both physical health and mental wellbeing.
  • Dining Options: Residents are welcome to enjoy meals together in a communal setting, enhancing social bonds, or take their meals privately if they prefer.
  • Special Needs: All dietary requirements, whether for health, cultural, or religious reasons, are respectfully accommodated to promote a thriving, inclusive home.

By participating in meal planning, cooking, and communal eating, life in supported housing at Shenehom Housing Association supports routines in residential mental health care while promoting autonomy and meaningful participation.

Privacy, Dignity & Respect

We believe privacy is an essential part of feeling at home and respected. At Shenehom Housing Association, we have established clear boundaries and practices to uphold every individual's sense of dignity:

Personal Space

All bedrooms and bathrooms are private, with lockable doors. Residents' autonomy is always respected.

Staff Approach

Staff will always knock and seek permission before entering personal spaces, fostering mutual respect and trust.

Privacy with Visitors

Residents are welcome to receive visitors in private, and guests may join for meals with advance notice. Overnight stays for guests can be discussed and may be arranged with staff agreement.

Cultural & Religious Inclusion

We honour and support all religious beliefs, cultural practices, and individual identities. Residents are encouraged and supported in practising faith, customs, or personal traditions that matter to them.

Respect at
Every Step

Whether it's daily routines, meal times, or community life, our focus is on maintaining dignity and privacy at all times.

These principles of structured daily support for mental health, respect, and autonomy make Shenehom a genuine home, rather than just another residential care setting.
