Reflections on 2020

2020 brought challenges to everyone in the country, no more so than those living and working in the Social Care Sector. The Covid 19 pandemic hit Britain hard and each of our lives changed in the process. The Government announced a national lockdown on the 23rd March 2020. Fortunately, the staff and trustees at Shenehom were ahead of the curve and stopped visitors entering the building on 13th March. Those ten days gave us some breathing space, and looking back just over a year later, was the correct decision.

Over the past year we have worked closely with all residents and emphasised the importance of hand washing, social distancing and wearing face masks when out in the community. Whilst it has been a difficult period for all of us, we are very pleased and proud that despite having a very vulnerable client group, we have not had any Covid 19 deaths at Shenehom Housing Association.

In January 2021 two of our residents tested positive following a routine PCR test. We had already sectioned off a part of the building incase of a worse case scenario. Both residents remained healthy, isolated themselves from their housemates and are now getting on with their lives.

Our residents and the vast majority of the team have now been vaccinated against Covid 19, and we are now looking forward with a renewed optimism. There is plenty of hard work ahead. Some of the residents at Shenehom lost college places and voluntary jobs during the pandemic. The team will now be working closely with them with a renewed vigour to ensure that their lives return to normal.

Shenehom Housing currently has two rooms vacant. We will be looking to fill these rooms as the pandemic begins to lift.
