Volunteering as a mental health carer

Shenehom Housing Association is strengthened not only by its professional team, but also by the enthusiasm and kindness of its volunteers. Volunteering with us is both meaningful and rewarding, as volunteers play a truly valuable role in daily life at Shenehom. Full training and support are provided, ensuring both volunteers and residents benefit from the experience.

How much time do volunteers dedicate to working at Shenehom?

We recognise that potential volunteers come with different backgrounds and time commitments. Whether someone is able to give a few hours a week, half a day, a full day, or several days per week, we offer flexibility to make the most of any regular commitment. We work with each volunteer to design a schedule that is both personally fulfilling and supportive of the needs of our residents. The only requirement we have is reliability, as the consistency of volunteers is an important part of fostering trust and community.

What can volunteers help with?

Volunteers at Shenehom Housing Association actively complement our residential mental health care staff. Their support enables our dedicated team to provide an even higher standard of professional care within our Barnes home. Volunteers may choose to become ‘befrienders', spending time with residents playing board games, engaging in creative activities, assisting with group support sessions, joining in on community meetings or simply sharing a friendly chat over a cup of tea. Through their involvement, volunteers help to build a warm, welcoming environment where everyone is supported on their path to greater confidence, stability, and meaningful independence.

Volunteering here introduces you to experienced mental health professionals and gives you genuine insight into recovery-focused support staff roles. Our volunteers become an essential part of a compassionate team who listen, encourage, and help residents feel valued every day.
