Board Responsibilities & Governance Structure

The governance of Shenehom Housing Association is shaped by the collective expertise of our board. Board members, all unpaid volunteers, share responsibility for the good conduct and strategic management of our supported housing service in Barnes. Ensuring Robust Governance

Our board meets approximately six times a year, forming an independent leadership team at the heart of Shenehom's mission. Each director also participates in a monthly inspection of the home on a rota basis, supporting our culture of continual improvement. The board currently operates through two principal committees: the Staff and Residents Committee and the Finance Committee, with a Premises Committee proposed to monitor property conditions and liaise with our leaseholder.

Hans Mallalieu

Chair of the Board, Chair of the Staff
and Residents Committee

Hans has three decades of experience in financial, operations, and human resource management, gained through a career in banking and as a company director. He brings the benefits of UK and international volunteering experience, drawing on his work with NGOs and charities in both the Caribbean and the UK.

As a co-owner of a medical practice and a deeply-rooted member of the Barnes community, Hans is passionate about promoting engagement among residents, families, and staff. His leadership of the Staff and Residents Committee helps shape Shenehom Housing Association Ltd as a true home, not an institution.

 

David Miles

Deputy Chair

David brings the wisdom of a distinguished academic career, primarily at Kingston University, where he served as Pro Vice-Chancellor for External Affairs, Dean of the Faculty of Business & Law, and Professor of Business Education. His leadership in charitable organisations includes chairing the Council for Education in World Citizenship, Institute of Direct Marketing, UK Work Organisation Network, and Fusion Arts.

His earlier roles as a local government councillor and candidate for Parliament demonstrate deep community engagement. David's long record in mental health charity governance, policy, and education underpins his thoughtful stewardship at Shenehom Housing Association.

 

Professor Robin Jarvis

Treasurer

Robin is Professor of Accounting & Finance at Brunel University and recipient of the British Accounting and Finance Association Lifetime Achievement Award. His extensive experience covers public policy, financial reporting standards, and charity finance, including roles with the International Accounting Standards Board and the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group. He is actively involved with charities such as Registry Trust Ltd and Z2K.

A qualified accountant, Robin offers expert scrutiny and oversight to Shenehom's finances, ensuring the association's resources are managed with professionalism and transparency,a vital part of social housing governance in Barnes.

 

Michael Dix

Board Member

Michael's lifetime career as a chartered surveyor was centred in the City and West End of London, in both banking and private practice, including senior roles at firms such as Gerald Eve & Co. and Cluttons. Specialising in property valuation, investment, and development, Michael lends his vast expertise to property oversight. As a Fellow of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, his guidance supports both day-to-day site management and Shenehom's longer-term infrastructure planning.

Guy Gantley

Secretary

Guy served as an economist in HM Treasury, as well as internationally at British Embassies, and as a Middle East specialist in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. His analytical background is complemented by personal experience with care issues, which brings empathy and understanding to his governance role. As Secretary, Guy safeguards the constitutional arrangements of Shenehom Housing Association and precisely recording board debates and conclusions, supporting the transparency that underpins social housing governance in Barnes.

 

Graham Lust

Board Member

With over 40 years as a property lawyer, Graham spent his career as a partner in a leading London firm and has worked as a company director focusing on regeneration and development. He has managed social housing projects and is an experienced charity trustee, currently serving the Wimbledon Synagogue. Graham's knowledge of supported housing leadership, property law, and non-profit management is integral to our ongoing development and ensuring high housing standards for our residents.
 

 

Councillor Marjory Millum

Local Councillor and Board Member

Marjory is one of the local councillors for the Barnes ward and was nominated to our board by Richmond Borough Council. Trained and practised as a solicitor in Scotland, she held a senior administrative role at Robert Gordon University and has a master's in law. In Richmond, Marjory has been pivotal in deepening cooperation between Shenehom Housing Association and the borough council, promoting resident wellbeing and advocacy. She is also a trustee of the Barnes Fund, further emphasising her commitment to community and public service.

 

Carlene Thomas

Board Member

Carlene is a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner with over thirty years of professional experience, currently managing a team of Housing Inspection Officers across 31 London boroughs. Her role focuses on improving housing conditions for vulnerable people. Carlene brings direct, practical advice on legislative compliance and standards in supported housing environments. Her insights ensure Shenehom continues to provide high-quality, safe accommodation for adults with mental health needs in Barnes.
